How long after being purchased from a flower store can flowers last before needing water?

I%26#039;m buying some for my girlfriend, but because of schedules and where we%26#039;re going, the flowers will be purchased but won%26#039;t be in water until 4 hours later





I want them to be alright because she loves having them in her house!

How long after being purchased from a flower store can flowers last before needing water?
just wrap them in some wet paper towel around the stem and keep them out of the direct sun, they will be fine.
